Working the night shift is hard at the best of times, but working the night shift over the festive season is different!

Your mind is constantly filled with FOMO at social catch-ups or worrying if you've organised enough Christmas presents for family and friends. And don't get us started on planning the Christmas lunch or dinner you volunteered to host for 20+ of your family and closest friends!

At Infectious, we are here to help you get through those long night shifts over the Christmas period.

Don't Over-Commit To Social Events

We all know Christmas is social event after social event!

We recommend limiting the number of social occasions you commit to. Nothing is worse than feeling burnt out during the festive season because you have committed yourself too much! Plan your social events around work, not the other way around.

Don't Save Your Christmas Shopping Till Christmas Eve!

This tip seems straightforward, but it's worth repeating.

Plan for your Christmas shopping and avoid the last-minute rush.

Relieve your stress by preparing for your Christmas so you can enjoy it. Most leading department stores, K Mart, Big W, Myer, Etc., have Christmas layby options that you can use six months in advance.

Everyone goes into Christmas shopping hyperdrive in December, so at the very least, try to sort your present list before then!

Bring Christmas To Your Workplace

The best way to beat the Christmas blues while on shift is to surround yourself with Christmas cheer. Bring the Christmas spirit to lift your mood and the mood of those around you by decorating your ward or clinic, playing Christmas carols and, of course, wearing Christmas scrubs!

We've listed some of our favourites below.
